Dear Marvell-Elaine Seniors:

Throughout this school year, I stated that you are bright and engaging students when you elect to be. In our conversations, I expressed a desire and expected you to know how to be the very best. I wanted you to read closely, to think critically, and to debate ideas. I wanted you to know how to grapple with challenging mathematical problems and how to broaden one another's understanding. In science, I wanted you to test hypotheses every day. In social studies, I wanted you to view the world not only as it is but as it should be. And so, because you are so smart, Marvell-Elaine School District and the community will always have really high expectations for you.

However, more importantly, I want you to please believe in yourselves. Be kind and caring persons. Honor your parents, your culture, your traditions. I believe that these things are important and will help in providing you with a great life, a self-confident life. I am sending out very best wishes to you Class of 2023, whom I will miss.

Please never forget your roots. Have a safe and happy summer break. And as you enter into your post-secondary life, here's wishing you love, laughter, and learning. Always remember the words of Milton Berle, "If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door."

Respectfully,

Candas A. Bullock, Ed.D.
